Drying your dog after a muddy walk can be a nightmare, particularly in winter when it’s cold! Drying coats have increased in popularity over recent years, inspired by similar products for humans. Despite growing up with spaniels all my life, I’d never heard of using a drying coat for your dog, until I adopted Woody. There are so many different types of drying coat on the market, in a variety of sizes, colours and price points. Woody and I have been trying a few brands over the past few months and thought we’d share with you what we think!
We recently joined Cornish Ramblings for a walk around Bedruthan and Porthcothan near Newquay. The group, organised by Jody and her working cocker spaniel Purdy, meet regularly at weekends to explore walks across the county. It’s a great way to meet fellow walkers and explore parts of Cornwall you’ve always dreamed of seeing. [Read more…]
Do you run your own pet business or keep dreaming of starting something dog friendly and new? I’ve been freelancing full-time since March this year and it’s been an interesting journey so far to say the least! While running The Cornish Dog, I’ve also rekindled my love for reading and learning new things to help my business. Today I thought I’d share with you my favourite business books for petpreneurs. They cover a range of topics, from photography, PR, self-employment and finances. I’ve tried to be as comprehensive as possible to help kickstart your reading list.

I’ve owned my pair of Trailback boots for a few months now and always get asked questions about them. Today I thought I’d share with you my thoughts and experiences so far, while answering the all important question – are they worth the money? [Read more…]
I’m usually the one who walks Woody, so it’s always a treat when my boyfriend joins us on our adventures. A few months ago, we stayed at Penbugle Organic Farm near Liskeard. The owners of Penbugle recommended Golitha Falls to us and plenty of the campers spoke highly of the woodland walk. When I heard about this enchanting place, we just had to investigate for ourselves! We explored the walk on the last day of our stay and loved it. We’d highly recommend a visit next time you’re Liskeard way. [Read more…]
Separation anxiety is something both Woody and I struggle with. In fact, it was one of the contributing factors that found him needing to be rehomed. A lot of Woody’s past remains a mystery to me, however his separation anxiety is very real. He’ll howl if I leave him, even if my boyfriend is still in the house. In his previous home he even destroyed his bed after being left by himself for too long. When Furbo asked if we’d like to work with them and test out their new dog camera, I leaped at the opportunity. We’ve been putting our Furbo through its paces these past few days and thought we’d share with you our experience so far!

Today marks Woody’s 2nd birthday. I can’t believe I’ve had my little buddy for just over a year now, it’s remarkable to reflect on just how far he has come. We’ve definitely grown closer as the months have passed, in fact Woody rarely leaves my side. To celebrate both Woody’s birthday and adoption day, we’ve got a little announcement. We’ve been busy secretly planning our biggest adventure yet and tonight we thought we’d share with you just exactly what we’ve got ourselves into! [Read more…]
Ever wondered how much it costs to own a dog? Recently we celebrated Woody’s adoption day, marking our first full year together. It’s crazy to think this time twelve months ago I had only just met my little buddy and to see how far we have come together! When I first adopted Woody I had no idea how much it would cost to own a dog and for a while I worried a lot about it. I’ve been sifting through bank statements and receipts from the past year and have totted up the totals. Today I thought I’d share with you how much it has cost to own Woody during his first year with me.
Kennack Sands is a stunning beach situated near the villages Kuggar and Ruan Minor on the Lizard Peninsula. There are two sections to this beach, one of which operates a dog ban during the summer months. Fortunately the beaches are clearly defined, with a huge cliff/sand dune separating both sections. There are plenty of useful sign posts dotted along the walk, directing you to the dog friendly beach. [Read more…]
If you’ve been following us for a while you’ll know that when I first adopted Woody he hated water! For a working cocker spaniel, this is completely out of character and I was determined to show Woody how fun swimming, paddling and exploring by the sea can be. It’s taken nearly a year but I’m so proud of my little buddy. Today I thought I’d share with you some of our tips for building your dog’s confidence in water.
Millie has been staying with us for a few weeks over summer but had been getting bored of her usual walks. So, Woody, Millie, my mum and I took to the South West Coast Path in search of adventure! We walked to Mevagissey from Gorran Haven and back again, stopping in the delightful Teacup Tearoom for lunch. It’s a 3.5 mile walk each way, with stunning views, dog friendly beaches and fishing villages en route.
Woody and I hadn’t ventured on a long walk in ages and had rarely explored the coast path together. Stories of dogs running off clifftops left me feeling anxious, so I’ve been sticking to the routes I know. It’s easy to get stuck in a routine and forget about the incredible places we’re surrounded by here. Cornwall boasts some of the most beautiful coastline in the country and it was high time for an adventure!
We love supporting small businesses doing pawsome things for pets in the Duchy. Recently Woody and I met Jenny, the creative behind Mable and Merryn. She handcrafts her leads from her home in Stithians, splicing hemp into rope and customising it with coloured whipping.
I love minimalist design when it comes to pet accessories and when I discovered Mable and Merryn, it was love at first sight! Woody and I spend as much time as possible at the beach, so nautical designs are always a hit. I love how simple yet functional the leads are and we always receive compliments about them when we’re out on our walks.
