Winter has arrived and the beach ban has been well and truly lifted. Woody and I absolutely adore this time of year. Nothing quite beats bumping into dogs at the beach and there’s something about the community that comes together at this time of year. There are so many beaches at our fingertips now, it can be hard to choose which one to visit! We thought we’d share with you some of our favourite winter beaches. These are places where dogs aren’t always welcome during high season but come to life at this time of year.
Constantine Bay is a beautiful sandy beach near Padstow on the Trevose Head Heritage Coast. It’s a popular place for surfing and is dog and family friendly year round. RNLI Lifeguards patrol the beach at weekends in April but provide a full daily service between May and September each year.
I’ve decided to reposition myself online, moving away from calling The Cornish Dog my ‘blog’ and focussing on the dog friendly photography and content creation services I offer to clients. I’ve always been a photographer, however more and more businesses seem to think I work for nothing. This begs the question, should dog bloggers work for free? [Read more…]
Autumn has well and truly arrived in Cornwall. Temperatures have remained mild, which certainly makes for the best kind of outdoor adventures. We’ve been enjoying exploring our local woodlands recently and took a trip to Idless Woods to marvel at the incredible sights and smells of autumn. [Read more…]
We’ve heard incredible things about Natural Cornish Pet, a pet haven based in St. Erth, near Hayle in west Cornwall. They boast an enviable selection of natural foods, treats and toys and are open 7 days a week. I’d been meaning to visit for a while and we decided to pop in on the way home one day after a beautiful morning beach walk at St. Michael’s Mount.
DOGSCLOSURE: We received a free play session in the secure field, as well as a selection of free treats in return for this review. All thoughts are honest and our own, Woody and I absolutely love Natural Cornish Pet and will be visiting again very soon! Woody’s Mable and Merryn lead was gifted to us in exchange for a blogpost in summer 2018. I purchased everything else featured in this blogpost myself.
As a dog owner, I’m always caught between the comfort vs. style conundrum when it comes to my wardrobe. The majority of the time, I’m out with exploring Cornwall’s beautiful walks and beaches. However, dressing for the weather, particularly in wintertime, isn’t always the most thrilling. Is it possible to own a dog and dress fashionably? Today I share with you my very own capsule wardrobe for dog owners.

Minimalism, sustainability and our impact on the environment have fascinated me for years. There are so many articles, books and blogposts to explore online about these topics. Low waste swaps that are commonly suggested online tend to only apply to humans. Since adopting Woody, I’ve been eager to live as minimally and sustainably as possible with him. Fortunately, I’ve discovered plenty of low waste swaps for you and your dog. Today I thought I’d share with you some of our favourites!
DOGSCLOSURE: I received free soaps and balms from The Dog and I in exchange for this post. I also received free Mable and Merryn leads for a previous blogpost in summer 2018. I purchased everything else featured myself.
Drying your dog after a muddy walk can be a nightmare, particularly in winter when it’s cold! Drying coats have increased in popularity over recent years, inspired by similar products for humans. Despite growing up with spaniels all my life, I’d never heard of using a drying coat for your dog, until I adopted Woody. There are so many different types of drying coat on the market, in a variety of sizes, colours and price points. Woody and I have been trying a few brands over the past few months and thought we’d share with you what we think!
DOGSCLOSURE: We were gifted a Paws and Presto drying device in exchange for this post. I have since donated it to StreetVet, as it wasn’t the product for us. Woody was gifted 3 Dogrobes in exchange for ecommerce photographs on their website. I purchased everything else featured in this blogpost myself.
We recently joined Cornish Ramblings for a walk around Bedruthan and Porthcothan near Newquay. The group, organised by Jody and her working cocker spaniel Purdy, meet regularly at weekends to explore walks across the county. It’s a great way to meet fellow walkers and explore parts of Cornwall you’ve always dreamed of seeing. [Read more…]
Do you run your own pet business or keep dreaming of starting something dog friendly and new? I’ve been freelancing full-time since March this year and it’s been an interesting journey so far to say the least! While running The Cornish Dog, I’ve also rekindled my love for reading and learning new things to help my business. Today I thought I’d share with you my favourite business books for petpreneurs. They cover a range of topics, from photography, PR, self-employment and finances. I’ve tried to be as comprehensive as possible to help kickstart your reading list.

I’ve owned my pair of Trailback boots for a few months now and always get asked questions about them. Today I thought I’d share with you my thoughts and experiences so far, while answering the all important question – are they worth the money? [Read more…]
I’m usually the one who walks Woody, so it’s always a treat when my boyfriend joins us on our adventures. A few months ago, we stayed at Penbugle Organic Farm near Liskeard. The owners of Penbugle recommended Golitha Falls to us and plenty of the campers spoke highly of the woodland walk. When I heard about this enchanting place, we just had to investigate for ourselves! We explored the walk on the last day of our stay and loved it. We’d highly recommend a visit next time you’re Liskeard way. [Read more…]
