Hedley Wood Holiday Park is situated in Holsworthy, on the Devon/Cornwall border. It’s the perfect base for exploring Bude, Kilkhampton, Morwenstow and the South West Coast Path. The site is family friendly, with plenty of amenities nearby, as well as dog friendly facilities. Dogs are welcome in selected caravans at Hedley Wood and must be kept on lead throughout the site (apart from in one of the dog walking fields.) We met all sorts of dogs during our stay and everyone was incredibly friendly.

DOGSCLOSURE: We received a complimentary 3 night stay at Hedley Wood Holiday Park in exchange for this blogpost.

We were invited to stay in one of the Luxury Caravans at Hedley Wood Holiday Park. They sleep up to 6 people and welcome 2 dogs. I’d never stayed in a static caravan before and was pleasantly surprised but just how spacious it was inside. If you have a caravan or motorhome of your own, Hedley Wood also offer a variety of en-suite touring pitches. You can even pitch your tent if you prefer!

The Luxury Caravans are equipped with an open plan living/dining area, a kitchenette with fridge, kettle, toaster and cooker and 2-3 bedrooms to the rear. The master bedroom has its own en-suite and there’s also a family bathroom. I was really impressed with the strength of the shower, it was miles better than the one I have at home!

There are plenty of doors in the caravan too, which may seem strange to mention but came in really useful for stopping Woody and Hen traipsing through with muddy paws from our walks. Even though the weather wasn’t its finest, there was plenty of space for the dogs to play indoors without getting under my feet. Flatscreen Televisions with Freeview and DVD Players are included in each caravan, along with central heating throughout. It was the perfect excuse to cuddle up together in the evenings and enjoy a film or two.

We visited Hedley Wood in October, which meant the weather was temperamental to say the least! Between the torrential downpours and strong gales, we enjoyed walking at Widemouth Bay. It’s just over 4.5 miles from Hedley Wood and is a pleasant drive. The left side of the beach is dog friendly all year round. I really enjoyed hiking this stretch of the Cornish Coast Path with the dogs last summer, the views are just incredible and it’s fairly easy walking, which is always a bonus. There are a few steep cliffs between Crackington Haven and Boscastle but they make for great day hikes with the dogs.

Bude is just over 5 miles away too, with plenty of dog friendly eateries, attractions and of course the much-loved Canal Walk. We also popped into Crackington Haven during our stay. The beach there is subject to the annual dog ban, which lifts at the end of September. Woody and Hen loved exploring the rocky shoreline together and the stormy swells were just brilliant to watch. I even spotted a surfer or two in the waves, they must have been freezing!

If you’re looking for dog friendly eateries nearby, we highly recommend the Coombe Barton Inn at Crackington Haven, The Tree Inn at Stratton or the Bay View Inn in Widemouth Bay. Hedley Wood Holiday Park also have their own restaurant and bar onsite. Woodman Bar serves a variety of pub classics and Sunday roast during peak season. There are also kennels available for guests to use during your stay, if you prefer to eat without your dogs.

It’s safe to say Woody and Hen came absolutely everywhere with me though, as they always do. They were on their best behaviour during our stay and we had an amazing break. Dogs stay for free at Hedley Wood Holiday Park and while there’s a limit to 2 dogs per static caravan, there’s no limit on camping, touring and motorhome stays. Woody and Hen even received a welcome pack from reception on arrival, which included two of their favourite bedtime treats!
