I’m passionate about living as sustainably as possible with my dogs and really enjoy sharing my journey with you. I know it can be be a challenge to find sustainable alternatives to common pet products. So, I thought I’d share with you some of our favourite eco friendly dog brands. Be sure to check back here over time, as I will add to this post whenever I find a new sustainable business to support!

DOGSCLOSURE: This post contains products we have been gifted, either specifically for this post or in the past. You can find out more about specific brand partnerships throughout this post.

The Dandy Dog Company | GIFTED

DOGSCLOSURE: We received a complimentary treat jar, food bowl and dog walking bag in exchange for this blogpost. I purchased the water bowl myself soon after.

I’ve fallen a little bit in love with The Dandy Dog Company this year. I love their minimalist aesthetic, with a subtle hint to dogs. I find a lot of pet products are overly garish, with bright colours and bold prints that just aren’t really me. The Dandy Dog Company is much more my style; if I could I’d definitely purchase their entire range of bowls, bags and beds. Woody and Hen best start saving their pawcket money!

I love how transparent The Dandy Dog Company are about their supply chain. They go above and beyond to support local artisans and source their materials as ethically as possible. Their pottery is handmade in the UK and available in four colours, Chalk, Sand, Seaspray and our favourite, Purbeck Pebble. The pottery is thick and stable, I’m not worried about the dogs accidentally knocking over their bowls and breaking them. The entire range is dishwasher safe too, which is always a bonus.

Mable and Merryn Leads

DOGSCLOSURE: I have previously been gifted two Mable and Merryn leads in exchange for this blogpost. I have since purchased two additional leads when I adopted Hen and use them frequently.

Mable and Merryn were one of the first sustainable products I swapped to when I adopted Woody. Their leads are made from 100% hemp, which is more sustainable to grow than cotton, as it requires significantly less water. Each lead is handmade by Jenny, who is based in Stithians, near Truro.

I love the intricate knots on these leads, as well as their minimalist, nautical style. Each lead can be customised with a choice of coloured whipping and they’re available to purchase via their Etsy Store. There are plenty of options to choose from, including different thicknesses, fastenings and Jenny accepts custom orders too. I’m particularly tempted by one of her bespoke lead couplers, so I can walk both Woody and Hen on one lead!

The Dog and I Soaps

DOGSCLOSURE: I have previously been gifted The Dog and I soaps and balms in exchange for this blogpost. I have since repurchased the soaps myself and really enjoy using them.

We all know the devastating impact plastic pollution is having on our planet. Living so close to the sea, this is particularly apparent in Cornwall. Every time I go to the beach, I find all sorts of discarded single use plastic. Plastic free alternatives continue to emerge and i’ve been using low waste, packaging free shampoos and soaps for years. When I discovered The Dog and I’s plastic free soaps, I was overjoyed, as the majority of dog products seem to come encased in unnecessary plastic.

The soaps are made using three ingredients. They’re predominantly coconut oil based, which is natural, anti fungal and an excellent moisturiser. There are currently four soaps in the range, each with their own unique combination of scents made from essential oils. I love using these bars on the dogs. They’re easy to hold, smell amazing and are kind to the planet too. I’ve even used the soap myself while hiking the Cornish Coast Path – you’ve got to save as much weight as possible when you’re backpacking!

The Distinguished Dog Company Sweatshirts

DOGSCLOSURE: I received a discount on my Walkies Sweatshirt in exchange for this blogpost.

I’m a huge fan of capsule wardrobes, where you own fewer, high quality pieces that you love to wear frequently. My style is practical and cosy, however I do enjoy expressing myself through my clothes. When I found out about the Walkies Sweatshirts by The Distinguished Dog Company, I knew I had to add one to my collection. They’re based just across the border in Exeter and sell a variety of handmade dog accessories too.

The Walkies Sweatshirts are available in two colours, navy and grey. They’re made from 100% organic cotton grown in India and use non-toxic inks to print the slogan. The sweatshirts are Earth Positive certified and are manufactured using solely renewable energy from wind and solar power. Continental Clothing, who manufactures the sweatshirts are also a member of the Fair Wear Foundation, which strives to promote a more ethical garment industry and improve working conditions for staff.
