Dog Friendly Cinema Screening Exeter | The Cornish Dog

We recently ventured across the border, where cream teas are served cream first (the scandal!) You’ll be pleased to know it was only a short trip, to spend the day in Exeter. We were invited to a dog friendly cinema screening of Pick of the Litter and brought our friend Shadow, a Romanian rescue, along with us for the ride!

DOGSCLOSURE: We were gifted our tickets to the dog friendly screening of Pick of the Litter at Exeter Picturehouse.

Woody and I have been to a dog friendly cinema screening before. Our friend Marcel le Corgi invited us to one in London last summer. I think they’re a fantastic idea! Woody has awful separation anxiety (AD) and I can’t leave him alone. Being able to bring him to the cinema every so often enables me to enjoy days out, without worrying about leaving Woody.

We went to see Pick of the Litter, a documentary that follows a litter of Labradors in America on their quest to become guide dogs. It’s a fascinating film, I’ve always been intrigued by the training behind Guide Dogs for the Blind. In fact, we were joined by a guide dog in training in the cinema too!

The dogs did incredibly well throughout the screening. There must have been around 20 pups in total. Apart from a runaway pug, Woody and Storm’s mid-film thirst and a few grunts and grumbles from our friend Shadow, everyone behaved impeccably.

Exeter Picturehouse hold dog friendly screenings every few months. The films vary but are usually along a canine theme – no complaints here! They’re held on Sunday mornings and well behaved dogs are welcome. You’re provided with a blanket to cover the seats and there’s plenty of water available. If you’re outside of Devon, don’t worry, Picturehouse Cinemas across the country take part in these dog friendly screenings!

Once the film had finished and I’d wiped my tears away (it was an emotional film okay!) we headed out for a walk. The dogs were keen for a run so we headed to Castle Drogo, which is 15 miles east of Exeter. Lunch was top priority and we enjoyed snacks from the National Trust café onsite.

Exploring Teign Gorge was next on the agenda. We were spoilt for choice, as there’s over 1,000 acres of walks to explore! Shadow showed us around, as she’d visited before. Woody enjoyed sprinting up and down the steep gorge, while Storm had fun saying hello to all the dogs we passed.

The views around Teign Gorge are breathtaking. The weather was gorgeous and we could see for miles! The paths were level and easy to walk, a great place for families to explore together. We walked in as many directions as possible before heading back to the car to start our long drive home. I’m sure we’ll be back again soon to explore more of Devon’s walks!
